The the People of The United States,
I would like to start of with a reminder of our previous discussion on this interest from so long ago:
QUEEN ANNE, in her letter of the 1st July, 1706, to the Scotch Parliament, makes some observations on the importance of the UNION then forming between England and Scotland, which merit our attention. I shall present the public with one or two extracts from it: "An entire and perfect union will be the solid foundation of lasting peace: It will secure your religion, liberty, and property; remove the animosities amongst yourselves, and the jealousies and differences betwixt our two kingdoms. It must increase your strength, riches, and trade; and by this union the whole island, being joined in affection and free from all apprehensions of different interest, will be ENABLED TO RESIST ALL ITS ENEMIES." "We most earnestly recommend to you calmness and unanimity in this great and weighty affair, that the union may be brought to a happy conclusion, being the only EFFECTUAL way to secure our present and future happiness, and disappoint the designs of our and your enemies, who will doubtless, on this occasion, USE THEIR UTMOST ENDEAVORS TO PREVENT OR DELAY THIS UNION."
It was remarked in the preceding paper, that weakness and divisions at home would invite dangers from abroad; and that nothing would tend more to secure us from them than union, strength, and good government within ourselves. This subject is copious and cannot easily be exhausted.
The history of Great Britain is the one with which we are in general the best acquainted, and it gives us many useful lessons. We may profit by their experience without paying the price which it cost them.
There are two parts to my original context which we have abandoned in our modern unions with those other Nations who have their own self-interest at heart.
FIRST, all unions must be made, whether by treaties or by other international agreements, “MUST INCREASE OUR STRENGTH, RICHES, and TRADE.” The majority of our over 200 per year treaties or other instruments have in fact WEAKENED our International Position, REDUCED OUR WEALTH relative to the rest of the World, and CRIPPLED our TRADE by making us more dependent on IMPORTS than our RESOURCES.
SECOND, as I addressed in my latest letter on this topic, that WEAKNESS and DIVISIONS at HOME INVITE DANGERS from Abroad. WE HAVE DIVIDED OUR UNION!
However, at my former conclusion, I pointed to our heritage and ability to learn from other’s mistakes by observing Great Britain. This applies today, more than ever. TWENTY NINE YEARS AGO, Britain joined a Union which promised them Security through Economic and Political Access to its member states. TWO YEARS ago, they exited that Union, because that SECURITY came at the COST of their FREEDOM.
When we look at this so called BREXIT, we see a series of interesting behaviors that reflect our observations from so long ago, which I have repeated in my other most recent letters. Those in the Government of Britain fought against ending the relationship with the Union, whereas the PEOPLE fought for ending the relationship. It is the drive of the People that resulted in correcting the error made more than twenty five years prior.
This was not an easy task! It took the people almost FOUR YEARS to finally end the relationship in this ONE Union which took their FREEDOM.
Imagine how much harder then our challenge to end the THOUSANDS of such relationships as we now have which bind us legally with Other Purposes and Other Goals. Following Civil Discourse, it could take generations to undo. Therefore, we must look to another method and means to undo what our Government has wrought upon us.
One such method would be to undo the present Union which binds us through the Federal Government with the International Community. I asked so long ago in the context of UNITY, when referring to Britain’s past of DIVISION between Ireland, Scotland and England, who were forever embroiled in quarrels,
Should the people of America divide themselves into three or four nations, would not the same thing happen?
It appears that our current situation has Our Once Great Nation as a Union embroiled in quarrels and unequally yoked to the World, so in order to restore our SECURITY and our FREEDOM as an INDEPENDENT UNION, perhaps it is time to do just that. In our current state, we are crippled by three main points:
Our UNION has become Hyphenated resulting in DIVISION
Our UNION has been Contaminated through Treaties and other agreements by OTHER GOALS and OTHER PURPOSES, counter to our Common Goals and Common Purpose.
Our UNION has TRADED its FREEDOM for a FALSE SAFETY.
Like so long ago, it is time to do something to restore Our Once Great Nation. The question is how long can we survive the process? We do not have Generations to reverse this situation. I would say we have less than FIVE YEARS before it cannot be saved.
In my next series of letters, we will explore the root causes and corrective actions available to us in this endeavor. I pray that we have the FORTITUDE and the RESOLVE to stand up for WE THE PEOPLE!
Let candid men judge, then, whether the division of America into any given number of independent sovereignties would tend to secure us against the hostilities and improper interference of foreign nations.
